The South Kensington Exhibition Proof

The One penny Die II, Plate 27

In Feburary 1872,  with the official permission for the International Exhibition at South Kensington, Perkins,  Bacon printed proofs on thick white card, imperforate from Die II, Plate 27 in black.  The printers were given permission to retain the sheet and at the time the firm was liquidated in 1935 the sheet was sold and broken up for sale.
